NewsJuly 2005 -- CCI employee named chairman of Infocomm International Dashboard for Controls Committee. Control Concepts Interface Designer, Greg Maderic, began his Chair appointment of the Dashboard for Controls in July of 2005. He succeeds Gregory Bronson of Cornell University who relinquished the Chair position after the Infocomm International trade show in 2005 as he pursues other projects and interests and the announcement that the Dashboard will change focus from the supply to design side. The change in focus is designed to incorporate additional programmers and integrators into the AV interface design dialog. The Dashboard for Controls Committee has been in existence for over five years as an Infocomm International cross council human factors and interface design initiative. The Dashboard name is based on the philosophy that using a controlled integrated audiovisual system should be as easy as driving a car."We are extremely pleased to have Greg Maderic chair our committee and lead the research and development of design guidelines that will help make the user more comfortable when introduced to audiovisual technology," said Duffy Wilbert, Vice President, Membership, Infocomm International. “This type of participation and expertise from members of InfoComm is a catalyst for providing relevant and useful programs for the entire pro-AV industry.” Under the leadership of Gregory Bronson, the dashboard committee has produced two documents which provide design guidelines and introduce human factors theory to the audiovisual control system interface designer. Dashboard Committee members have also been involved in education initiatives at the Infocomm International trade shows. “I am honored to continue the efforts of Mr. Bronson, stated Greg Maderic of Control Concepts, “We all work in a service industry and must be mindful that customer satisfaction is our primary goal, it’s for this reason that ease of use be paramount in design of the control system interface.” As Chair of the Dashboard Committee, Greg has overseen the creation of a technical interface design guide for Control System Programmers and has presented several educational courses at the Infocomm International trade shows. Additional initiatives include usability testing of Dashboard interface design templates, on-line reference documents with interface design samples, and course offerings related to soft tools to help the interface designer be more productive.
